How to book and FAQs

Trybooking can be a bit complicated, and some tickets have conditions (for example, you have to be coming to the conference to enter the pitch contest, otherwise that would be boring.) So here are instructions for using Trybooking, and details for each ticket type.

Click on the BUY TICKETS button or links here on our website and Trybooking will open on an the relevant page with summary details of the events:

  • Next to each event/session is the ‘Status’, i.e. the number of remaining tickets.
  • Browse the list of events/sessions. To select an event/session to add to your shopping cart, click SELECT next to the desired event/session.
    • The selected event/session will be displayed at the bottom of the page, with a brief description.
  • Use the ‘-‘ and ‘+’ buttons to confirm how many tickets for that event/session you wish to book, and select NEXT.
  • Complete the ‘Ticket Holder Information’ for each ticket to be purchased. Select NEXT.
    • Note: First Name and Last Name fields will be displayed for each ticket selected.
    • Note: Dietary Requirements field will be displayed for each ticket selected if appropriate. This is a mandatory field. (You can simply write None or 0 if that’s the case.)
    • Note: Accessibility Requirements field will be displayed for each ticket selected. This is an optional field.
  • Review your order in your Shopping Cart.
  • From the Shopping Cart page:
    • Click BUY MORE TICKETS below your tickets to select more tickets for the category you selected initially.
  • (At the Shopping Cart, when you are ready to complete your bookings)
    • Enter your Booking Details.
    • Enter your Payment Details.
  • Click the Tick this box… to be kept on our mailing listing for future HNSA events
  • Agree to the conditions of purchase by clicking PURCHASE.
  • You will be issued a booking ID for the transaction with a link to print your ticket/s. A confirmation email also will be sent to your nominated email address with an order summary, receipt, and a link to your tickets to print. YOUR TICKET NUMBER IS DISPLAYED BELOW THE BARCODE ON THE PRINT VERSION.

Please print the ticket(s) and bring them with you when you arrive at the Registration Desk at HNSA 2019 Conference in Sydney.

Note: Due to the Trybooking system, tickets may display times that vary between 1-3 minutes from the advertised time of an event or session on the HNSA website. Please refer to the 2019 conference program for official times.

There are numerous sessions that need to be booked separately. Where spaces are limited, tickets can be purchased/reserved until all available spaces are taken.  Limited number sessions include:

  • Academic Stream
  • Craft Workshops
  • Manuscript Assessments
  • Research & Writing Masterclass
  • First Pages Pitch Contest Entry
  • Historical Re-enactments & Weapons
  • Conference Dinner

You might come across this if you need to buy a Conference Ticket plus Dinner or Workshop session or Manuscript Assessment or First Pages Pitch Contest or Academic Stream or Masterclass or Short Story Contest.

  • Purchase your initial Conference ticket as per the instructions above (see How do I buy a ticket? above)
  • Once at the Shopping Cart, leave your browser tab displaying the shopping cart with your initial purchases waiting ready to go and return to the HNSA website. Locate the link to the additional category and select BUY TICKETS
  • Proceed through the ticketing process, selecting your additional tickets as above until you reach the Shopping Cart again – your earlier selections will be updated with your new selections.
  • Complete the purchase of all your tickets.

Some ticket types require you to have a weekend conference ticket (i.e. Early Bird Weekend, Full Price Weekend Program, Complimentary Full Weekend, Concession Weekend, Student Weekend) or a Saturday or Sunday day ticket.

You’ll know this by the mandatory field requiring your conference ticket number to be added to your booking before proceeding. That means, you need to buy your conference ticket first.

Only once the transaction is complete and a Conference Ticket Number issued, can you purchase one of the following ticket types:

  • Academic Stream – requires a weekend conference ticket or a Sunday ticket to be booked prior to booking a free academic stream ticket.
  • Medieval Armour & Armouring – requires a weekend conference ticket or a Saturday or Sunday ticket (the same day you want to go to the session) to be booked prior to booking a free Medieval Armour & Armouring ticket.
  • Introduction to Historical Fencing – requires a weekend conference ticket or a Sunday ticket to be booked prior to booking a free fencing ticket.

If you’ve bought your conference tickets and then want to book for the Dinner, Workshops, Manuscript Assessment, First Pages Pitch, Academic Stream, Masterclass or Short Story Contest, then:

  • Click on the BUY TICKETS button or link on our website and the Trybooking landing page will open.
  • Complete the purchase of your additional tickets.

You might need to do this because some ticket types require you to have a weekend or a day ticket before you can book them. See How do I purchase a ticket from separate categories in a single transaction? above
