Manuscript Assessments with Elena Gomez

17 October 2021 | 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Please note: there will be 6 x 55 minute manuscript assessments available with Elena Gomez on Sunday 17 October between 9am and 4.30pm. You can select your preferred time slot via Regfox.

Freelance book editor, mentor and writer Elena Gomez will be offering manuscript assessment services at the 2021 HNSA conference. You can book a one-on-one session over Zoom with Elena to receive feedback and guidance on the first three chapters and synopsis of your manuscript. During your session Elena will provide feedback on your sample writing. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about your writing process and ways to approach the drafting and crafting stages. Elena will assess your sample for voice, structure, style and genre, and provide suggestions for you to consider as you continue to draft your work. This assessment service will suit writers who have completed a full draft of their work and would like an outside, expert perspective of how to develop it going forward.

Elena Gomez is a book editor with over ten years’ experience in trade publishing. She has worked for major publishers including Penguin Random House, where she was most recently Deputy Managing Editor, and Text Publishing. She will be able to answer questions about the stages of publication to consider and prepare for after your drafting stage is complete. As a published writer and poet, Elena brings a close understanding of the writer–editor relationship from both perspectives.

You can send your submission to elenamaria.gomez@gmail.com. Please include ‘HNSA Manuscript Assessment 2021’ in the subject line and ensure you have sent all materials in by Monday 11 October 2021.

When submitting, please include:

  • A brief synopsis (no longer than one page)
  • Author bio
  • First three chapters
  • (Optional) any specific questions you have that you’d like addressed during the session.
