Editing & Revising Your Manuscript with Linda Funnell

 

Are you having trouble identifying the key elements of your story? Have you become a victim of your own success when it comes to research? Do you want to ensure your manuscript is presented as professionally as possible when approaching a publisher or agent? Editor Linda Funnell will take you through the different stages of editing and revision including structural, copy editing and proofreading with the aim of giving you the tools to make your manuscript the best it can be. The workshop will include:

  • Tools for refining the structure of your story
  • Tips for dealing with backstory
  • Focus on character, voice and point of view
  • Avoiding common traps in dialogue
  • Copyediting conventions

There will be two 10-minute breaks.

This workshop will not be recorded.

About Linda Funnell

Linda Funnell has worked as a publisher and editor for more than three decades and has taught courses in publishing, editing and writing for UTS, the ASA and Writing NSW. Over the course of her career, which included 10 years as publisher at HarperCollins, Linda has worked with historical novelists including Colleen McCullough, Belinda Alexandra, Steven Carroll, Karen Brooks, Robbi Neal, Diane Armstrong and Geraldine Brooks. In 2020 she was chair of the judging panel for the inaugural ARA Historical Novel Prize. Linda currently works as a freelance editor, and runs the free online review the Newtown Review of Books.
