'Murder She Wrote' Terra Australis Conference

What happens after HNSA 2019? You can enjoy more historical fiction laced with mystery and crime at the Terror Australis Readers and Writers Festival (TAF2019), Tasmania’s newest literary festival, set in the gorgeous Huon Valley.

The inaugural staging – MurderShe Wrote – runs from Thursday 31 October to Tuesday 5 November.

There are three areas of programming to enjoy across thisHalloween-to-Melbourne Cup long weekend of words and wine: 

Immerse yourself fully in one, or pick and choose from allthree!

If your interests lie in history and historical fiction, the Friday and Saturday of theprogram may catch your eye.

At 3 pm on Friday 1 November Meg Keneally will present her masterclass on using History asInspiration when writing fiction.

Shortly after Meg’s masterclass concludes, step back in timeto a 1920s speakeasy of jazz, spoken word and illegal cocktails at Noir at the Bar.

On Saturday 2 November, you may be particularly drawn to thepanel session Means(9.45 am). Tara Moss, Marta Dusseldorp, Jack Heath and L.J.M. Owendiscuss their most startling research techniques and discoveries, including thearchaeological and women’s history research behind L.J.’s Dr Pimms series andTara Moss’s research to prepare for her new Billie Walker, PI series set inSydney’s 1940s.

Later (1.45 pm) JackHeath and Tansy Rayner Robertsjoin Meg Keneally in Pick Your Poisonto examine how crime and mystery writers choose their sub-genres, includinghistorical fiction.

Saturday night, be transported to an archaeological site onthe Giza Plateau in 1920s Cairo for an evening of murder and mystery: Curse ofthe Sphinx. Are you the best detective in the land?

And, of course, between parties and panels you can explorethe valley’s myriad historical sites, museums and stunning vistas.
