Set in WW2, Running with Ivan is Suzanne Leal’s first venture into writing timeslip for younger readers . Ali Stegert’s Her Majesty’s League of Remarkable Young Ladies melds history and fun while encouraging CYA audiences to enjoy science and technology. Susanne Gervay will discuss how these authors approached capturing young imaginations, and why they chose to write for this readership. Please note: the winner of the CYA category of the ARA Historical Novel Prize will also be featured in this session, announcement to be made on 19 October 2023.
About Alison Segert
Alison D. Stegert is a kidlit creator based in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Her manuscript The Remarkables won the inaugural E.J. Corbett Mentorship for YA Historical Fiction in 2020. After working with mentor Dr Wendy Dunn, the manuscript went on to win the prestigious international competition The Times | Chicken House | IET 150 Prize in late 2021, which resulted in a publishing contract for Her Majesty’s League of Remarkable Young Ladies and literary representation. Ali is the state director of the Queensland branch of SCBWI Australia-East and the founder of the Sunny Coast Writers’ Roundtable. She is a member of the QWC and HNSA.
