About ALL THE GOLDEN LIGHT
1918, Belowla, south coast New South Wales. As the Great War grinds to an end, Adelaide Roberts accompanies her father to a rugged island off the south coast of New South Wales to deliver much-needed supplies. While loss and deprivation has decimated the country, Ada is determined to live a life of purpose and hope, and dreams of living an independent life.
On the windswept rocky outcrop she meets lighthouse keeper Emmett Huxley, a dark-eyed outsider haunted by his service in France, taking refuge from the damage of the war. Adelaide and Emmett are inexorably drawn together, but Adelaide discovers plans have been made for her with the decorated returned soldier Donal Blaxland, a local land-owner with a large tobacco plantation.
Soon, Adelaide is forced to make a choice about her future, and discovers that Donal harbours terrible secrets of his own. As she begins to understand the depths of Donal’s desperation, as she begins to understand the depths of Donal’s desperation, Adelaide knows she must leave – and between the treacherous waters of the coast and the rugged ranges of an ancient land, she fights for her survival, determined to live and love on her own terms.
A moving, uplifting story about love, trauma and addiction – and hope in the darkest of times, with echoes of Birdsong, My Brilliant Career and The Light Between Oceans.

I look forward to reading siobahn’s work
It’s gritty and confronting. I hope you enjoy!
This sounds like a fantastic weekend read as we move into winter! I imagine being snuggled in a blanket on my couch, sitting in front of my fireplace, diving into All the Golden Light! Putting it on my must read list now!
Excellent idea Cheryl. Love the sound of that!
More than ghosts appear to be haunting the lighthouse. Another wonderful plot showing the devastation of war.
Thanks Roland. I endeavoured to capture WWI from a different angle. This plot isn’t for the faint hearted, that’s for sure!
This sounds like a fantastic story.
All the Golden Light explores the period of Australian history I am most interested in. The story sounds fascinating. Congratulations Siobhan!
This sounds really great!
Love to read these books!

Planning to choose this title for my book club. (They need reminding about our fabulous history at least once a year.)

We could do with some golden light in our troubled world right now. Bring it on, Siobhan O’Brien.
It’s always wonderful to discover another great Australian writer of historical fiction. Looking forward to reading this.
The years during and after the World Wars are fascinating to those whose parents lived through them and deserve recording lest the younger generation forgets.
I’m learning so much on our history, and how an Historical novel is written and constructed by reading other authors wonderful novels. I’m sure this will be equally rewarding.
Interesting that the book deals with two men damaged by WW1. I’d like to know if they were AIF, as in men from the trenches, or were they AFC, those traumatised in the totally new form of aerial warfare. WW1 was the first mechanised war and the first aerial war.
My paternal grandmother was born in 1901 and wrote diaries about living through the First World War and its aftermath. I’m a keen reader of historical fiction, especially books written during wartime. I would love to read this book.
All The Golden Light and other novels which draw inspiration from the darkest hours and shine a light on the resilience of the human spirit are a healing balm for the soul in troubled times.
What a fantastic opportunity! AND it sounds like a terrific book!
Where’s my cup of tea and a comfy chair to curl up on? Because this novel sounds just my cup-of-tea.
